עומר אייל מירושלים קטף את המקום הראשון בתחום הכימיה בתחרות היוקרתית הבינ״ל רג׳נרון-אייסף (Rgeneron-ISEF).
בתחרות השתתפו שישה תלמידים ותלמידות תיכון שזכו בתחרות מדענים ומפתחים צעירים בניהולו של מוזיאון המדע בירושלים. השישה ייצגו את ישראל בתחרות הבינלאומית והתחרו עם עבודותיהם בתחומים של כימיה, מתמטיקה, פיסיקה ומדעי החיים.
התחרות הבינ״ל רג׳נרון-אייסף (Rgeneron-ISEF), מתקיימת כבר למעלה מ 6 עשורים, היא הגדולה ביותר לתלמידי תיכון. השנה היא התקיימה באופן מקוון ובה הציגו למעלה מ 1,800 תלמידים מרחבי העולם עבודות ופרויקטים מדעיים והנדסיים שערכו, כולל ששת תלמידים מישראל.
עומר אייל, תלמיד התיכון שליד האוניברסיטה ותוכנית ׳אלפא׳ ירושלים, הציג את עבודתו בה פיתח ואיפיין אירוג׳ל המבוסס ניקל. עבודתו זכתה במקום הראשון בתחום הכימיה, תחום שבו התחרו 71 עבודות מרחבי העולם.
עבודתו זכתה גם לצל״ש מטעם מטעם האגודה האמריקאית לכימיה (American Chemical Society).
אירוג'לים הינם החומרים המוצקים הקלים ביותר בעולם. שטח הפנים הגדול, יכולות בידוד החום והנקבוביות הגבוהה ביותר שלהם הופכים אותם לשימושיים בתעשיות רבות ומגוונות. אירוג'לים מתכתיים הוצעו בעבר כחומרים שיאפשרו פריצת דרך לקראת מעבר לאנרגיה ירוקה, אך תהליך הייצור שלהם יקר ומורכב, ולכן השימוש בהם מוגבל. במהלך העבודה פותח אירוג'ל הניקל הראשון בעולם, בתהליך יצור נוח וזול עם תכונות המקנות לאירוג'ל פוטנציאל כזרז כימי וכמדרגה חשובה בדרך לאנרגיית מימן ירוקה ויעילה במכוניות. את המחקר ערך עומר בהנחייתו של ניר גנוניאן במעבדתו של פרופ׳ דוד אבניר מהאוניברסיטה העברית.
בנוסף זכתה אריאל גת מנתניה, תלמידת התיכון תמר אריאל ״שפירא״ בפרס מיוחד מטעם חברת Raytheon Technologies האמריקאית. החברה חילקה פרסים לעבודות שהראו מצוינות במדע ובהנדסה. את המחקר שלה ערכה אריאל בהנחייתו של שאול בובליל, במעבדתו של פרופ' דורון אורבך, באוניברסיטת בר אילן. אריאל עבדה בתחום הסוללות והציגה תכונות משופרות לסוללה מוצקה אותה פיתחה ואיפיינה.
תחרות מדענים ומפתחים צעירים בישראל נערכת כבר 24 שנה ע"י מוזיאון המדע ע"ש בלומפילד, ירושלים. השנה התחרות התקיימה באופן מקוון בחודש מרץ. לשלב הגמר עלו 53 עבודות מתחומי המדעים המדויקים, מדעי החיים והסביבה, הנדסה, מדעי הטבע ומתמטיקה ומדעי המחשב, מדעי החברה והרוח. חבר שופטים כלל 35 חוקרים מובילים ממוסדות השכלה הגבוהה בישראל ומהתעשייה המתקדמת בישראל, בהובלתו של יו"ר חבר השופטים פרופ' חנוך גוטפרוינד מהאוניברסיטה העברית.
